SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

NOTICE OF POSTPONEMENT OF “THE 9 DRAGONS MALAYSIA” TO 28 -30 OCTOBER 2022

Foremost, we hope this find you in great spirit and in good health.

This notice serves to inform all runners that we have come to a difficult decision to postpone the 1st edition of “The 9 Dragons Malaysia” to 28 – 30 October 2022 after we have had much consultations with all stakeholders at Ministry of Tourism Malaysia (MOTAC), Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), and our partners at Race Base Asia.

We believe that this would be the best way to move forward in lieu of the followings:

a) The fact that the international borders will remain close till the final quarter of 2021 and even if it does open earlier, many registered runners from around the region would not be able to travel or will be subjected to stringent quarantine requirements owing to the surge in cases in their respective countries.

b) Langkawi is currently undergoing a massive pilot testing project by the Government of Malaysia and will be opening to visitors from 16 September 2021. We would like to take the opportunity to observe and monitor the situations post 16 September 2021, instead of taking the decisions to go ahead with the race in October 2021 which may create more uncertainty and hardship than it already has if any unintended surge in cases does occur.

c) The event team is committed to provide every runner with the true experience of “The 9 Dragons Malaysia” here in Malaysia and deem this final postponement necessary owing to the above.

This change of event would mean that the race will be reopened for registration on 1 January 2022 and all current registered runners will be automatically deferred to the 2022 race without any additional cost to be incurred with the new registration fee in 2022. Should the event be further cancelled in 2022 owing to unforeseen circumstances, we will then be providing all registered participants with a 100% refund.

To further commemorate “The 9 Dragons Malaysia 2021”, we will be holding “The 9 Dragons Malaysia VR -The Dragons Slayer Reinitialized V2.0” between 25 – 30 October 2021. All registered 2021 runners are automatically entered for free.

We would like to take this opportunity to apologize for any inconvenience or hardship this announcement creates, but would like to reassure you that this is made with everyone’s best interest in mind after so much work and preparation have been made by the event team headed by our Race Director, Steven Ong.

We hope everyone of you will continue to stay safe, stay healthy, stay strong and stay positive.

Thank you so much for your kind understanding and support through this very difficult period.

The 9 Dragons Malaysia Team

WELCOME TO

THE 9 DRAGONS ULTRA MALAYSIA

The 9 Dragons Ultra Malaysia will be hosted by Race Base Asia and MMTF Consultant. It is also co-organized by the Forestry Department Kedah and Langkawi Development Authority (LADA). Originally scheduled for 29 – 31 October 2021, the race is now postponed to 28 – 30 October 2022 and will start and finish at Resort World Langkawi, an island resort in the state of Kedah, West Malaysia.

The 9 Dragons Ultra Malaysia is an international collaboration between Race Base Asia who is the principal organizer of The 9 Dragons Ultra in Hong Kong and MMTF Consultant who organizes the regionally famed Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival.

The 9 Dragons Ultra Malaysia will take runners through 10KM, 25KM, 50KM and 50 Miles of pristine trails in Langkawi with elevation gain of 290m, 900m, 1810m and 3500m (+)(-) respectively. The race will give every runner a chance of a lifetime to experience running through paddy fields, old and forgotten trails whilst covering most of the peaks in Langkawi.

The 9 Dragons Ultra Malaysia will have the race format similar to the principal’s race in Hong Kong. The ultimate challenge will be running the 50 Miles and 50KM races spread over 2 days. Runners can also opt to run the 50 Miles, 50KM, 25KM or 10KM only.  Subsequently, one can also do the 50 Miles or 50km race and thereafter the 25KM or the 10KM at a special rate for the shorter distance. Unlike the 50/50 & 25/10 challenge, these are considered separate races all together.

The 9 Dragons Ultra Malaysia is certified by International Trail Running Association (ITRA) and one of the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc (UTMB) qualifying races. The 25KM, 50KM, 50 Miles and 50/50 race is accorded 1 point, 3 points, 4 points and 5 points respectively. The 9 Dragons Ultra Malaysia is also an Asia Trail Master 2023 Candidate Race.

We look forward to having each of you in Langkawi, Kedah in autumn 2022.
