KAILAS PENANG SKYRACE 2025

KAILAS PENANG SKYRACE 2025 signifies Malaysia’s return to the SKYRUNNER WORLD SERIES for 2 consecutive years. KAILAS PENANG SKYRACE 2025 will be held between 25 – 27 April 2025 at Georgetown, Penang, West Malaysia.

KAILAS PENANG SKYRACE 2025 will be part of 24 Skyrunner World Series races around the world which marks the re-entrance of Malaysia in the global skyrunning scene for the 2nd year running.

KAILAS PENANG SKYRACE 2025 will be co-organized by MMTF Consultant (an international sporting event management company based in Malaysia), which remains the only member of the International Skyrunning Federation (ISF) in Malaysia since 2020, Malaysia Mountain Goat and Penang International Hiker’s.

MMTF Consultant gained global recognition for its organization of the Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival, which remains 1 of the 2 International Skyrunning Federation (ISF) “Certified Course” label events in Malaysia since 2020.

2000 runners from around the world are expected for the 2025 race. The top global sky-running elites and global performing U-23 Youth are expected to lead the field at KAILAS PENANG SKYRACE 2025.

There will be 3 supporting race distances to the main race namely the 5KM FUN SKY (526m +ve gain), 10KM SHORT SKY (1072m +ve gain), and 50KM SKY ULTRAKS (2396m +ve gain). The ultimate challenge for the race weekend in 2025 will be 30KM PRO SKY (2283m +ve gain) which is part of the SKYRUNNER WORLD SERIES 2025.

Runners will be challenged through undulating mountain trails surrounding the northern part of the island where there are good mixture of pristine and adventurous tropical jungle trails and man-made paths.

Runners in the 30KM and 50KM will be taken to Penang Hill via a few hills, with the highest point at Western Hill which is 833m (2,733 ft) above sea level. Runners from all around the world can expect to witness exotic orchids, farms, wildlife, and waterfalls and be spoilt with amazing mountain-top views.

With a combined elevation gain of a minimum 2283m +ve gain, sky-runners from around the world should expect a highly physically demanding 30KM race through the tropical jungle mountain path besides having to put up with the high humidity surroundings.

The 50KM SKY ULTRAKS, is an ultra-challenge for those who find the 30KM PRO SKY too short.

For the 1st time in Malaysia’s skyrunning history, we will be hosting the U23 Trofeo Esteban Olivero Series, where we will see the U-23 global performing elites gunning for glory in the 10KM SHORT SKY.

The Pearl of Orient State of Penang, Malaysia is deemed suitable to host an international standard race such as KAILAS PENANG SKYRACE 2025 because it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with many well-maintained “mountainous trails”. Besides that, Penang is famous for its tantalizing local street food and for being one of the most popular destinations in Malaysia. It is a place where cultural tradition and modernity blend seamlessly into one. Penang is also known for its beautiful beaches, rich heritage, and alluring natural scenery. With an international airport and well-connected infrastructure, it will also ease one’s travel to the island.

The organization look forward to hosting everyone and provide everyone with a memorable experience befitting the Skyrunner World Series status accorded.

NOTE:

  1. Schedule is subject to change when deemed necessary by the organizer.
  2. The organizer reserves the right to suspend, cancel or change the design of the course when deemed necessary for runner’s safety.
  3. Mandatory gear check will NOT be conducted during Race Pack Collection. However, mandatory gear check will be done randomly during the race.

  6. All drop bags must be retrieved with RUNNER’S BIB at the respective drop bag counters by 08:00pm (26 April 2025) or 12:00pm (27 April 2025) either by runners themselves or a representative. Any drop bag not collected may be disposed of. The organizer will not be held responsible for any loss or damage to any item in the drop bag.

  1. Finisher medals will only be awarded to runners, upon completion of race within cut off time.
  2. Registered participants who do not turn up in person on Race Day will be disqualified and will not be entitled to a finisher medal.

** Note 1: Participants must wear their bib numbers at the front.

** Note 2: Tampering with the race bib in any way (e.g. obscuring/removing sponsor’s identification) will result in your disqualification. The organizer shall immediately disqualify any participants if this rule is not strictly observed.

** Note 3: Participants without Race Bibs on event day will not be allowed to start the race.

** Note 4: Whosoever found to be running with another person’s race bib other than his/ her own will be subjected to disqualification, and possibly banned from the event for a period of time.

** Note 5: The organizer is against the unlawful transfer of the bib. Any transfer must be made known and authorized by the organizer. This is to ensure that should there be any incidents, the right person is contacted and the right treatment to be administered in some cases.

  1. Mandatory gear check will NOT be conducted during Race Pack Collection. However, mandatory gear check will be done randomly during the race.
  2. Any runners who fail to adhere to the list below will incur a penalty, where time will be added to their finishing time based on the severity of the omission, and in some cases will give the organizer the right to penalize the said runner. Any decision made is at the organizer’s discretion and it will be final.
  3. The organizer has ZERO tolerance toward runners who fail Mandatory Gear checks.  
  4. Mandatory Items list will be uploaded 15 January 2025.

The start and finish of the race is at Youth Park, Georgetown, Penang.

Please go to the Travel section for information on getting to Penang.

Support crews are not required for this race, as the respective checkpoints by the organizer are adequate for runners to successfully complete the race.

If you have support crews, kindly ensure that they only support you at the respective checkpoints. Support crews are not allowed on the course, as they could be a hazard to other runners or to themselves. Anyone found to have breached this rule of law will be disqualified and evicted from the course.

Organizer is not responsible for the safety of support crews. The registered runner is responsible for the actions of his/ her support crews. Support crews must comply with all instructions from event officials. The runner may be penalized or disqualified for actions or breaches of the rules by their support crew.

Support crews must not consume refreshments at checkpoints. The food is for the competitors only.

Only runners are allowed to gain possession of their drop bags at the designated checkpoints.

The final race course information and profile will be shared on 1 April 2025 after the team completes the final inspection of the race course.

If you can no longer participate in the race, please refer to ‘Refund Policy’ and ‘Entry Transfers’ below to check your available options.

REFUND POLICY

If you cannot find anyone to replace you and would prefer a refund of your entry fee, we are able to provide:

  • Full refund less RM50.00 administration fee if you advise us by email any time before the normal entry fee date (15 January 2025 11:59PM).
  • 50% refund less RM50.00 administration fee if you advise us by email between 16 January 2025 and 15 March 2025 11:59PM.
  • No monetary refund if you advise us after 15 March 2025 11:59PM.

*Do note that there will be a 8% gateway charge on the total amount, or min. RM2.00, whichever is higher to be paid.

If the event course is, in the opinion of the event organizer, unsafe (for example by reason of heavy rain, high winds, bushfires, “acts of god”), organizer may, in their sole discretion, attempts to re-route the course, find an alternative shortened course or cancel the event. Organizer also reserves the right to cancel the event for any other reason which may include but is not limited to terrorism and war. If the event is cancelled, re-routed or shortened, no refund or transfer to another event will be made. Due to the scale of the event and travel & commitment involved by competitors, it is not practical to re-schedule the event to any other weekend.

ENTRY TRANSFERS

TRANSFER OF ENTRY BEFORE 15 February 2025 (EARLY ONLINE ENTRY TRANSFER)

You are able to transfer your entry online to an acquaintance up to 15 February 2025 11:59pm. You need to find the person yourself to transfer your entry to. You need to sort out payment between yourself and the person taking your entry. The person who is taking your entry will also need to pay a RM50.00 transfer fee and 8% gateway charge (or min RM2.00), whichever is higher to complete their new entry.

TRANSFER OF ENTRY BETWEEN 16 February 2025 & 15 March 2025 (LATE ONLINE ENTRY TRANSFER)

You are also able to transfer your entry online to an acquaintance between 16 February 2025 and 15 March 2025 11.59pm. You need to find the person yourself to transfer your entry to. You need to sort out payment between yourself and the person taking your entry. The person who is taking your entry will also need to pay a RM100.00 transfer fee and 8% gateway charge (or min RM2.00), whichever is higher.

CATEGORY UPGRADE/ DOWNGRADE BEFORE 15 March 2025

If you would like to change the race category after registered, you are able to upgrade or downgrade your category before 15 March 2025 11:59pm.

For upgrade, you are required to pay the category price difference and a RM50.00 cash administration fee.

For downgrade, you are required to pay a RM50.00 cash administration fee, however the difference in the category price will not be refunded.

For Category Upgrade/ Downgrade after 15 March 2025, runners are required to execute them during REPC for a surcharge of RM150.00.

TRAVEL: –
Penang is situated on the North Western coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
Penang is well connected by land and air. One may get to the island by taking a bus from any major city in Peninsular Malaysia.
Visitors may also fly directly to Penang or via major town/ city in Malaysia. Check with your flight operators or tour agents on the options.
Note: The event will START and FINISH at Youth Park, Georgetown, Penang. The REPC will take place at the Youth Park, Georgetown, Penang.

ACCOMMODATION: –
There are many hotels (budget or otherwise), motels, homestay and beds & café in Penang. Visitors will be spoilt by choices.

Indemnity & Release Form

Please print and complete the Indemnity & Release Form. Kindly submit the signed form during Registration at REPC.

Failure to produce the Indemnity & Release Form will be charged RM2.00/copy for printing charges.

Waiver Form for Runners below 18 years old

Please submit the Waiver Form upon registration if you are a runner below 18 years old.

Authorization Form – DNS Runners

For runners who cannot attend the race event, you may print the Authorization Form and pass to your representative to collect your race entitlements on behalf.

ONLINE REGISTRATION/ RULES & REGULATIONS

  1. All participants must register online by providing their name, NRIC/Passport number, gender, contact number, email address, and emergency contact details.
  2. Upon successful registration, each participant will receive a confirmation slip via email. The confirmation slip serves as the only valid evidence of registration. All participants are required to present their respective confirmation slips and, or identity card and; or passports during Race Entry Pack Collection Day.
  3. The Event is open to participants who are 18 years of age and above. Age is calculated based on 25 April 2025.
  4. Participants must place their race bibs facing forward, prominently as high as possible on the front of their Running Tee. Do not place your race bib on the side of your hips, on your back, or tucked away in your jacket. Runners found without their race bib numbers may be penalized or disqualified. Please ensure that the race bib number is visible.
  5. Tampering with the race bib in any way (e.g. obscuring/removing the sponsor’s identification) will result in your disqualification. The organizer shall immediately disqualify any participants if this rule is not strictly observed.
  6. A runner is not allowed to be supported by any 3rd Party or participant to the race, other than at the Checkpoints/ Water Stations provided by the organizer along the course.
  7. If you withdraw from the race, you must report to the closest checkpoint. This will ensure that you will be safely removed from the race course and transported back to the race venue.
  8. If you need First Aid assistance on the course, you must contact the emergency number which will be provided to you during the Race Briefing on 25 April 2025 as stipulated in the EVENT GUIDE to be shared prior to race weekend.
  9. You must carry your own mandatory gear at all times during the race. Random gear checks will be conducted during the race. Runners without mandatory items will not be able to proceed until they arrange for the missing items to be replaced.
  10. You must obey the instructions given by checkpoint officials, or course “Trail Masters” and withdraw from the race if you miss any cut-off time at the checkpoint or on the course.
  11. Littering is prohibited. Kindly dispose of all litter at the nearest checkpoint.
  12. Please respect the locals and their culture.
  13. Do not leave any human faeces on the track. If you need to poo, use a toilet, a wag bag or get off track and “Leave No Trace”.
  14. You must obey any information signs and markers along the race course.
  15. Leave the gates as you find them. If closed, you may open the gate to pass through but please ensure that you close them back after you.
  16. The organizer reserves the right to discourage and/or penalize behaviour that is considered unsporting.
  17. The organizer reserves the right to postpone or cancel or suspend the race for any reason it deems fit to do so.
  1. Confirmation slip
    Note: We encourage a paperless environment. Hence, a confirmation slip displayed through mobile/smartphone at the REPC counter will suffice.
  2. Participant can also produce National Registration Identity Card (Malaysian) or Passport with a confirmation slip for verification during REPC.
  3. Please note that race entry packs will not be issued on event day unless the organizer is informed in advance. This is to ensure that there is no disruption to the preparation of the race.
  4. Kindly note that the registered participant is required to collect his/ her own Race Entry Pack. You are not allowed to collect Race Entry Pack on behalf of other runners.
