MALAYSIA MOUNTAIN TRAIL FESTIVAL 2021 (V.4.0)

Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival (MMTF) is co-organized by Jabatan Perhutanan Negeri Perak, MMTF Consultant and Larut Matang Hash House Harriers and Harriets. Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival 2021 (V.4.0) will be held between 17th December 2021 – 19th December 2021 at Esplanade, Taiping, Perak, West Malaysia.

Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival 2021 (V.4.0) will take runners through 13KM, 25KM, 50KM and 84KM of pristine trails in Taiping with elevation gain of 600m, 1200m, 2500m and 4800m (+)(-) respectively. The race will give every runner a chance of a lifetime to experience different trails around Taiping Lake Gardens and the iconic Maxwell Hill.

The 13KM race is the “Freshman Run” and with a new course in 2021, we trust that it will best fit the beginners.

The 25KM race will also come with new course in 2021, which best fits the synonym “BALL BREAKER”.

Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival 2021 (V.4.0) will have 2 versions of Ultra Challenge namely the 50KM ULTRA CHALLENGE and the 84KM ULTRA CHALLENGE.

The 25KM (1 ITRA POINT), 50KM (3 ITRA POINTS) and 84KM (4 ITRA POINTS) race courses have been evaluated and certified by International Trail Running Association (ITRA) and are part of the list of qualifying races for Ultra Trail Du Mont Blanc (UTMB).

The 50KM and 84KM race courses have also been certified by International Skyrunning Federation (ISF). Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival is the 1st race thus far in Malaysia to be accorded the ISF Certified Course Label and is the 2nd race in South East Asia and 5th in Asia-Pacific to be given such recognition.

Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival 2021 (V.4.0) has been accorded Asia Trail Master (ATM) 2020/2021 Championship season finale status. Besides having the best in the region to compete against one another in the ATM’s “Season Finale”, we trust this latest development will help enhance the standard of “ultra-trail” running to another level here in Malaysia.

Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival 2021 (V.4.0) is also part of Malaysia Ultra League (MUL) 2021 season.

Just like in 2019, we will be holding a “Welcoming Party” before everyone gets down to business for the last time in 2021.

We hope to bring everyone together during the welcoming party. Besides a wide spread of local food, we will also be holding some activities during the welcoming party. For instance, there will be live interviews with participating elites from the country and around the world which we trust will be a great sharing moment for everyone.

Part of the existence of Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival is to give back to the society. In 2018/2019, we have allocated some of the proceeds from our profits to sponsor “Kids Coloring Competition” and stationeries to less fortunate students in Taiping. We have also sponsored a musical group consisting of students who are saving to gain entry into music school and also Hua Lian High School via their school lion dance’s drum team. Part of the registration fees from 2018 had been paid to Bukit Larut/ Maxwell Hill Management for maintaining and upgrading our Bukit Larut/ Maxwell Hill. Besides we have sponsored athlete development in the likes of Soh Wai Ching (current world no.2 tower runner) and Daved Simpat (Malaysia no.1 ranked trail runner).

MALAYSIA MOUNTAIN TRAIL FESTIVAL 2021 CANCELLATION TERMS/ ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES

Dear Runners,

Owing to the many queries that we received of late, we would like to assure every runner that if the 2021 edition is cancelled owing to the pandemic, we will be providing everyone with a “100% Full Refund” just as in 2020.

 Kindly take note of the T&Cs :

– The 100% refund does not cover the 6% “gateway charge” which are charged by our online partner as it is in no way beneficial to us.

– Runners can opt to transfer their registration to 2022, if the 2021 edition is cancelled owing to the pandemic.

– Runners who opt for the 100% refund if the 2021 edition is cancelled, will enjoy a 10% discount for 2022 edition (or 20% discount if you have earned a 20% discount to MALAYSIA MOUNTAIN TRAIL FESTIVAL 2021)

MALAYSIA MOUNTAIN TRAIL FESTIVAL 2021 – VR/ TRAIL CLINICS

  1. VR – The EVENT TEAM will be hosting 2 VRs, 1 each in April 2021 and August 2021 with hope that it will help everyone reset and prepare for the race weekend at MALAYSIA MOUNTAIN TRAIL FESTIVAL 2021. The VR is “FREE OF CHARGE” and only for MALAYSIA MOUNTAIN TRAIL FESTIVAL 2021’s registered runners.
  2. TRAIL CLINICS – We will be holding 3 “Trail Running Clinics” between June 2021 to November 2021 for MALAYSIA MOUNTAIN TRAIL FESTIVAL 2021’s registered runners. The final locations and dates will be announced in due course.

Note :-

  1. Schedule is subjected to change when deemed necessary by organizer.
  2. Mandatory gears check will be conducted during REPC and randomly along the race course.
  3. There will be vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals provided during the welcome dinner.
  4. Please follow the instructions from event crew at race village at all times.
  5. 84KM runners are able to collect their Half Way Drop Bag from 10.00pm (18 Dec) onwards at the Race Village.
  6. All drop bags must be retrieved with RUNNER’S BIB at the respective drop bag counters by 11:30am (19 Dec) either by runners themselves or a representative. Any drop bags not collected after 11:30am may be disposed of. The organizer will not be held responsible for any loss or damage to any item in the drop bag.
  1. All participants must register online by providing their name, NRIC/Passport number, gender, contact number, email address, and emergency contact details.
  2. Upon successful registration, each participant will receive a confirmation slip via email. The confirmation slip serves as the only valid evidence of registration. All participants are required to present their respective confirmation slips and, or identity card and; or passport during Race Entry Pack Collection Day.
  3. The Event is open to participants who are 18 years of age and above. Age is calculated based on 17th December 2021.
  4. Participants must place their race bibs facing forward, prominently as high as possible on the front of your Running Tee. Do not place your race bib on the side of your hips, on your back or tucked away in your jacket. Runners found without their race bib numbers may be penalized or disqualified. Please ensure that the race bib number is visible.
  5. Tampering with the race bib in any way (e.g. obscuring/removing sponsor’s identification) will result in your disqualification. The organizer shall immediately disqualify any participants, if this rule is not strictly observed.
  6. No pets or animals allowed on the course.
  7. A runner is not allowed to be supported by any 3rd Party or participant to the race, other than at the Checkpoints/ Water Stations provided by the organizer along the course.
  8.  If you withdraw from the race, you must report to the closest checkpoint. This will ensure that you will be safety remove from the race course and transported back to the race venue.
  9. If you need First Aid assistance on the course, you must contact the emergency number which will be provided to you during the Race Briefing on 17th December 2021.
  10. You must carry your own mandatory gear at all times during the race. Random gear checks will be conducted during the race. Runners without mandatory items will not be able to proceed, until they arrange for the missing items to be replaced.
  11. You must obey the instructions given by checkpoint officials, or course “Trail Masters” and withdraw from the race if you miss any cut-off time at checkpoint or on the course.
  12. Littering is prohibited. Kindly dispose all litter at the nearest checkpoint.
  13.  Do not leave any human faeces on the track. If you need to poo, use a toilet, a wag bag or get off track and “Leave No Trace”.
  14.  You must obey any information signs and markers along the race course.
  15. Leave the gates as you find them. If closed, you may open the gate to pass through but please ensure that you close them back after you.
  16. The organizer reserves the right to discourage and/or penalize behavior that is considered unsporting.

** Note 5: The organizer is against the unlawful transfer of bib. Any transfer must be made known and be authorized by the organizer. This is to ensure that should there be any incidents, the right person is contacted and the right treatment to be administered in some cases.

  1. Mandatory gear check will be conducted prior to Race Pack Collection and randomly during the race.
  2. Any runners who fail to adhere to the list below will incur penalty, where time will be added to their finishing time based on the severity of the omission, and in some cases will give the organizer the right to penalize the said runner. Any decision made is at the organizer’s discretion and it will be final.

** Basic First Aid Kit: For treating minor wounds and injuries and should contain some antiseptic swipes, gauze, and compression/ self-adhesive bandage.

The start and finish of the race is at Esplanade, Taiping, Perak. Please go to Travel section for information on getting to Taiping/ Esplanade.

Support crews are not required for this race, as the respective checkpoints by the organizer are adequate for runners to successfully complete the race.

If you have support crews, kindly ensure that they only support you at the respective checkpoints. Support crews are not allowed on the course, as they could be a hazard to other runners or to themselves. Anyone found to have breached this rule of law will be disqualified and evicted from the course.

Organizer is not responsible for the safety of support crews. The registered runner is responsible for the actions of his/ her support crews. Support crews must comply with all instructions from event officials. The runner may be penalized or disqualified for actions or breaches of the rules by their support crew.

Support crews must not eat the provided food at checkpoints. The food is for the competitors only.

Only runners are allowed to gain possession of their drop bags at the designated checkpoints.

Kindly check with organizer for admission of support crew into the welcoming-party, as only limited number of tickets are available.

If you can no longer participate in the race, please refer to ‘Refund Policy’ and ‘Entry Transfers’ below to check your available options.

REFUND POLICY

If you cannot find anyone to replace you and would prefer a refund of your entry fee, we are able to provide:

  • Full refund less RM50.00 administration fee if you advise us by email any time before the late entry fee date (Monday 31st May 2021 11:59PM).
  • 50% refund less RM50.00 administration fee if you advise us by email between Tuesday 1st June 2021 and Tuesday 8th June 2021 11:59PM.
  • No monetary refund if you advise us after Tuesday 8th June 2021 11:59PM.

*Do note that there will be a 6% gateway charge on the total amount, or min. RM2.00, whichever is higher to be paid.

For refunds prior to 11:59PM Tuesday 8th June 2021, please email with Subject – Refund/ Name/ Category to info@mmtf.my.

In the event that the event course is, in the opinion of the event organizer, unsafe (for example by reason of heavy rain, high winds, bushfires, “acts of god”), organizer may, in their sole discretion, attempts to re-route the course, find an alternative shortened course or cancel the event. Organizer also reserves the right to cancel the event for any other reason which may include but is not limited to terrorism and war. If the event is cancelled, re-routed or shortened, no refund or transfer to another event will be made. Due to the scale of the event and travel & commitment involved by competitors, it is not practical to re-schedule the event to any other weekend.

TRANSFER OF ENTRY BEFORE Tuesday 8th June 2021 (EARLY ONLINE ENTRY TRANSFER)

You are able to transfer your entry online to an acquaintance up to Tuesday 8th June 2021 11:59pm. You need to find the person yourself to transfer your entry to. You need to sort out payment between yourself and the person taking your entry. The person who is taking your entry will also need to pay a RM50.00 transfer fee and 6% gateway charge (or min RM2.00), whichever is higher to complete their new entry.

TRANSFER OF ENTRY BETWEEN 8th June 2021 & 8th July 2021  (LATE ONLINE ENTRY TRANSFER)

You are also able to transfer your entry online to an acquaintance between Tuesday 8th June 2021 11:59pm and Thursday 8th July 2021 11.59pm. You need to find the person yourself to transfer your entry to. You need to sort out payment between yourself and the person taking your entry. The person who is taking your entry will also need to pay a RM100.00 transfer fee and 6% gateway charge (or min RM2.00), whichever is higher.

For LATE ONLINE ENTRY TRANSFER, kindly email with Subject – LATE ONLINE ENTRY TRANSFER / Name/ Category to info@mmtf.my

TRANSFER AFTER 8th July 2021

If you find someone to transfer your entry after Thursday 8th July 2021 11.59PM, you do not need to contact the organizer. Transfer must be done during REPC and will incur RM130.00 cash administration fee. No transfers are permitted on Saturday 18th December 2021 morning of the event. The event t-shirt and finisher t-shirt in this case will be based on the original registration before 8th July 2021 and not during transfer after 8th July 2021.

ANY TRANSFER IN THIS CASE CAN TO BE TO ANY PERSON OF ANY DISTANCE OR CATEGORY.

The person taking your entry must bring the following to the ‘Transfers’ table during REPC (whenever REPC is open):

  • his/ her photo ID and a copy of your event email confirmation
  • a signed letter stating you are transferring the entry to him/ her
  • RM130.00 cash transfer fee
  • a completed late entry transfer form, which will be made available during REPC
  • a signed copy of the Indemnity & Release Form

CATEGORY UPGRADE/ DOWNGRADE BEFORE 15th July 2021

If you would like to change the race category after registered, you are able to upgrade or downgrade your category before 15th July 2021 11:59pm.

For upgrade, you are required to pay the category price difference and a RM50.00 cash administration fee.

CATEGORY UPGRADE/ DOWNGRADE AFTER 15th July 2021

If you decide to upgrade or downgrade your category after 15th July 2021 11.59PM, you do not need to contact the organizer. Category change must be done during REPC and will incur cash administration fee (RM130.00 for upgrade and RM50.00 for downgrade).

No category change is permitted on Saturday 18th December 2021 morning of the event. The finisher t-shirt (if any) for the new category in this case will be based on the event t-shirt size.

    Note: We encourage a paperless environment. Hence, a confirmation slip displayed through mobile/smartphone at the REPC counter will suffice.
  2. Photocopy of National Registration Identity Card (Malaysian) or Passport together with confirmation slip must be produced during REPC.
  3. Please note that race entry packs will not be issued on event day unless the organizer are informed in advance. This is to ensure that there is no disruption to the preparation of the race.
  4. Kindly note that the registered participant is required to collect his/ her own Race Entry Pack. You are not allowed to collect Race Entry Pack on behalf of other runners.
  5. For runners who are not able to collect their race pack during REPC as mentioned above kindly inform us in advance and please ensure that you collect your race pack 3 hours before the start of your race. All race pack collection counter will cease operation 90 mins before the start of the respective race.
  6. INDEMNITY AND RELEASE FORM. PLEASE PRINT AND BRING A COPY OF THE INDEMNITY AND RELEASE FORM AS ATTACHED. FAILURE OF WHICH YOU WILL BE CHARGE RM2.00/COPY FOR PRINTING CHARGES.

TRAVEL:- 
Esplanade is situated in the heart of Taiping town adjacent to Taiping Lake Garden.

Kuala Lumpur –> Taiping

  1. Take a train/ ETS from KL Sentral to Taiping (3.5hrs), or
  2. Take a bus from KLIA 1 or KLIA 2 (4.5-5hours), or
  3. Take a bus from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS)(4-4.5hrs), or
  4. Take a bus from Puduraya Bus Terminal (4-4.5hrs), or
  5. Taxi (3-3.5hrs), or
  6. Car (3-3.5hrs)

Penang –> Taiping

  1. Take a train/ ETS from Butterworth to Taiping (50-60mins), or
  2. Take a bus from Butterworth (75-90mins), or
  3. Taxi (75-90mins), or
  4. Car (75-90mins) 

Ipoh –> Taiping

  1. Take a train/ ETS from Ipoh to Taiping (50-60 mins), or
  2. Take a bus from Ipoh Amanjaya Bus Station (75-90mins), or
  3. Taxi (75-90mins), or
  4. Car (75-90mins)

Hence, one can fly to either Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh or Penang, and decide their mode of connecting transport from there. Alternatively, one can also take a train or bus from any state in Peninsular Malaysia. If you are travelling from Singapore, there are direct buses from Singapore to Taiping, or from Johor Bahru to Taiping. If you are coming from South of Thailand (between the border of Malaysia-Thailand), you may also take a direct bus after crossing the immigration counter, or opt to take a bus to Butterworth and catch a connecting bus to Taiping.

You may alight both at Kamunting Bus Terminal or Simpang, and take a cab into Taiping Town which will cost you ~ RM10/ trip.

ACCOMMODATION:-
There are many hotels (budget or otherwise), motels, homestay and beds & café in Taiping Town.

You may alternatively stay at one of the official hotels provided by the organizer as mentioned here in below :-
