KAILAS TIOMAN ULTRA (TU50) 2023
KAILAS TIOMAN ULTRA (TU50) is presented to you by MMTF Consultant and Persatuan Gunung Tioman. KAILAS TIOMAN ULTRA (TU50) will be held between 6 – 8 October 2023 at Kampung Air Batang, Tioman, Pahang.
KAILAS TIOMAN ULTRA (TU50) 2023 is the 2nd #LoseYourMindDIscoverYourSoul project after The North Face Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival in Taiping, Perak. To runners, it’s about being provided with an “exotic playground” which would allow them to Lose Their Minds and Discover Their Souls. To the management, #LoseYourMindDiscoverYourSoul also signifies projects that we believe would contribute to the community where the race is held.
KAILAS TIOMAN ULTRA (TU50) 2023 will not only contribute economically to the community surrounding the race, but would also allow the management team to develop humans, more specifically the younger islanders in the area of event management.
KAILAS TIOMAN ULTRA (TU50) will see runners gunning for honour in the 10KM L5 Challenge, 25KM L7 Challenge, and 50KM L9 Challenge.
Runners will be taken around the paradise island through the pristine and untouched jungle trails. Runners will be tested with multiple elevation gains of 500m for the 10KM, 1750m for the 25KM, and 2900m for the 50KM. The race will give every runner a chance of a lifetime to experience different trails, which form the geographical landscape of the paradise island.
The 10KM race is a “LEVEL 5 (L5)” mountain running challenge which has well-mixed terrains that we trust best-fit beginners.
The 25KM race is a “LEVEL 7 (L7)” mountain running challenge that has undulated uphill and downhill, which seems endless.
50KM ULTRA CHALLENGE is the ultimate challenge at KAILAS TIOMAN ULTRA (TU50) 2023 and is a “LEVEL 9 (L9)” mountain running challenge. Runners will be taken to Gunung Kajang, the highest peak in Tioman before journeying through the “dragons back” ridge from Old Juara Road to Kampung Salang.
KAILAS TIOMAN ULTRA (TU50) 2023 is part of the Asia Trail Master (ATM) 2024 Championship Series Candidate Race. We trust by having the best in the region to compete against one another by being in the ATM Championship Series, will help enhance the standard of the competition.
The 25KM and 50KM race course are expected to be granted 2 ITRA POINTS and 3 ITRA POINTS respectively based on evaluation by International Trail Running Association (ITRA ). KAILAS TIOMAN ULTRA (TU50) 2023 is part of Malaysia Ultra League (MUL), ITRA National League, and is one of the ever-growing UTMB® World Series Qualifiers races.

** Note 1: Participants must wear their bib numbers at the front.
** Note 2: Tampering with the race bib in any way (e.g. obscuring/removing sponsor’s identification) will result in your disqualification. The organizer shall immediately disqualify any participants if this rule is not strictly observed.
** Note 3: Participants without Race Bibs on event day will not be allowed to start the race.
** Note 4: Whosoever found to be running with another person’s race bib other than his/ her own will be subjected to disqualification, and possibly banned from the event for a period of time.
** Note 5: The organizer is against the unlawful transfer of the bib. Any transfer must be made known and authorized by the organizer. This is to ensure that should there be any incidents, the right person is contacted and the right treatment to be administered in some cases.
- Mandatory gear check will be conducted prior to Race Pack Collection and randomly during the race.
- Any runners who fail to adhere to the list below will incur a penalty, where time will be added to their finishing time based on the severity of the omission, and in some cases will give the organizer the right to penalize the said runner. Any decision made is at the organizer’s discretion and it will be final.
- The organizer has ZERO tolerance toward runners who fail Mandatory Gear checks.
The start and finish of the race is at Nazri 1, Air Batang, Tioman.
Please go to Travel section for information on getting to Tioman or you may subsequently opt for the transport and accommodation packages that we are offering.
Support crews are not required for this race, as the respective checkpoints by the organizer are adequate for runners to successfully complete the race.
If you have support crews, kindly ensure that they only support you at the respective checkpoints. Support crews are not allowed on the course, as they could be a hazard to other runners or to themselves. Anyone found to have breached this rule of law will be disqualified and evicted from the course.
Organizer is not responsible for the safety of support crews. The registered runner is responsible for the actions of his/ her support crews. Support crews must comply with all instructions from event officials. The runner may be penalized or disqualified for actions or breaches of the rules by their support crew.
Support crews must not consume refreshments at checkpoints. The food is for the competitors only.
Only runners are allowed to gain possession of their drop bags at the designated checkpoints.
If you can no longer participate in the race, please refer to ‘Refund Policy’ and ‘Entry Transfers’ below to check your available options.
REFUND POLICY
If you cannot find anyone to replace you and would prefer a refund of your entry fee, we are able to provide:
- Full refund less RM50.00 administration fee if you advise us by email any time before the late entry fee date (30 June 2023 11:59PM).
- 50% refund less RM50.00 administration fee if you advise us by email between 1 July 2023 and 31 July 2023 11:59PM.
- No monetary refund if you advise us after 31 July 2023 11:59PM.
*Do note that there will be a 6% gateway charge on the total amount, or min. RM2.00, whichever is higher to be paid.
For refunds prior to 11:59PM 31 July 2023 please email with Subject – TU50/ Refund/ Name/ Category to info@mmtf.my.
In the event that the event course is, in the opinion of the event organizer, unsafe (for example by reason of heavy rain, high winds, bushfires, “acts of god”), organizer may, in their sole discretion, attempt to re-route the course, find an alternative shortened course or cancel the event. Organizer also reserves the right to cancel the event for any other reason which may include but is not limited to terrorism and war. If the event is cancelled, re-routed or shortened, no refund or transfer to another event will be made. Due to the scale of the event and travel & commitment involved by competitors, it is not practical to re-schedule the event to any other weekend.
TRANSFER OF ENTRY BEFORE 30 June 2023 (EARLY ONLINE ENTRY TRANSFER)
You are able to transfer your entry online to an acquaintance up to 30 June 2023 11:59pm. You need to find the person yourself to transfer your entry to. You need to sort out payment between yourself and the person taking your entry. The person who is taking your entry will also need to pay a RM50.00 transfer fee and 6% gateway charge (or min RM2.00), whichever is higher to complete their new entry.

TRANSFER OF ENTRY BETWEEN 01 July 2023 & 31 August 2023 (LATE ONLINE ENTRY TRANSFER)
You are also able to transfer your entry online to an acquaintance between 1 July 2023 and 31 August 2023 11.59pm. You need to find the person yourself to transfer your entry to. You need to sort out payment between yourself and the person taking your entry. The person who is taking your entry will also need to pay a RM100.00 transfer fee and 6% gateway charge (or min RM2.00), whichever is higher.

CATEGORY UPGRADE/ DOWNGRADE BEFORE 31 July 2023
If you would like to change the race category after registered, you are able to upgrade or downgrade your category before 31 July 2023 11:59pm.
For upgrade, you are required to pay the category price difference and a RM50.00 cash administration fee.

TRAVEL:-
Tioman is situated on the southern east coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
One may take a ferry from Tanjung Gemuk Ferry Terminal or Mersing Ferry Terminal. Please check the respective ferry time, if you have not opted for the organizer’s chartered ferry service)
Kuala Lumpur –> Mersing
- Take a bus from Kuala Lumpur to Mersing
- The bus ride will take 6 hours.
- Please opt for the organiser’s chartered bus service for your easy convenience.
Johor Bahru –> Mersing
- Take a bus from Larkin Bus Terminal to Mersing
- The ride will take 2.5 hours.
Hence, one can fly to either Kuala Lumpur or Johor Bahru, and get a connecting bus from there.
Mersing –> Tioman
- Take a Ferry from Tanjung Gemuk or Mersing Ferry Terminal to Tioman
- The ride will take 2 hours.
- Please opt for the organiser’s chartered ferry service for your easy convenience.
ACCOMMODATION:-
There are many hotels (budget or otherwise), motels, homestay and beds & café in Tioman. Do book early as we expect the accommodations to be limited during the race weekend.
You may alternatively book your accommodation with us, based on the add-on options provided.

Please print and complete the Indemnity & Release Form. Kindly submit the signed form during Registration at REPC.
Failure to produce the Indemnity & Release Form will be charged RM2.00/copy for printing charges.
ONLINE REGISTRATION/ RULES & REGULATIONS
- All participants must register online by providing their name, NRIC/Passport number, gender, contact number, email address, and emergency contact details.
- Upon successful registration, each participant will receive a confirmation slip via email. The confirmation slip serves as the only valid evidence of registration. All participants are required to present their respective confirmation slips and, or identity card and; or passports during Race Entry Pack Collection Day. Confirmation slip displayed through mobile/smartphone at the REPC counter will also suffice.
- The Event is open to participants who are 18 years of age and above. Age is calculated based on 7 October 2023.
- Participants must place their race bibs facing forward, prominently as high as possible on the front of their Running Tee. Do not place your race bib on the side of your hips, on your back, or tucked away in your jacket. Runners found without their race bib numbers may be penalized or disqualified. Please ensure that the race bib number is visible.
- Tampering with the race bib in any way (e.g. obscuring/removing the sponsor’s identification) will result in your disqualification. The organizer shall immediately disqualify any participants if this rule is not strictly observed.
- A runner is not allowed to be supported by any 3rd Party or participant to the race, other than at the Checkpoints/ Water Stations provided by the organizer along the course.
- If you withdraw from the race, you must report to the closest checkpoint. This will ensure that you will be safely removed from the race course and transported back to the race venue.
- If you need First Aid assistance on the course, you must contact the emergency number which will be provided to you during the Race Briefing on 6 October 2023 as stipulated in the EVENT GUIDE to be shared prior to race weekend.
- You must carry your own mandatory gear at all times during the race. Random gear checks will be conducted during the race. Runners without mandatory items will not be able to proceed until they arrange for the missing items to be replaced.
- You must obey the instructions given by checkpoint officials, or course “Trail Masters” and withdraw from the race if you miss any cut-off time at the checkpoint or on the course.
- Littering is prohibited. Kindly dispose of all litter at the nearest checkpoint.
- Please respect the locals and their culture.
- Do not leave any human faeces on the track. If you need to poo, use a toilet, a wag bag or get off track and “Leave No Trace”.
- You must obey any information signs and markers along the race course.
- Leave the gates as you find them. If closed, you may open the gate to pass through but please ensure that you close them back after you.
- The organizer reserves the right to discourage and/or penalize behaviour that is considered unsporting.
- The organizer reserves the right to postpone or cancel or suspend the race for any reason it deems fit to do so.
